Thomas A. Wilson has been named Dinsmore & Shohl LLP’s Columbus Office Managing Partner effective January 1, 2017, taking the reins from Charles E. Ticknor, III, who served in this position since 2012. Wilson, a public finance attorney with over 30 years of experience, is no stranger to successfully navigating transition. He joined the firm in the Peck, Shaffer & Williams merger in 2014.

“The Columbus office is incredibly diverse, both in terms of the services we offer to clients and the staff of attorneys we have assembled,” said Wilson. “It’s a high energy, focused group, and I’ve been very impressed with them since I arrived at Dinsmore.”

Wilson takes the helm of the firm’s second largest office, leading 73 attorneys with a variety of different practice areas. Among top priorities for Wilson are mentoring the next generation of Dinsmore attorneys and continuing a trajectory of growth both organically and through lateral hires.

“We are now in a position to help our younger partners and senior associates fully develop their practices. At the same time, we will continue adding attorneys who are a good fit for our culture. Our summer associate program has been an overwhelming success, and it’s exciting to watch these individuals develop from the moment they start with us,” said Wilson.

A well-respected leader throughout the firm, Wilson serves as Dinsmore’s Finance Department Chair and is also a member of the Board of Directors. He inherits the role from Chuck Ticknor, who served as Office Managing Partner for the past four years. Ticknor is confident that the Columbus office is in good hands.

“Our office is a tight knit group; lawyers and staff. We all have tremendous respect for Tom Wilson. Over the years we have grown our Columbus office substantially, and we know Tom is going to do a great job leading us into the future. I could not be more excited and optimistic about the future of Dinsmore as a law firm and our Columbus office in particular,” said Chuck Ticknor.

“Chuck Ticknor has been a fantastic managing partner for the Columbus office, expanding our team and office space while maintaining a great culture and work environment. I know that I will be consulting with Chuck frequently as we look to build on his many successes,” said Wilson.

Wilson has served clients in virtually all areas of public finance, dividing his time between traditional governmental bond and note issues and conduit financings for numerous tax-exempt organizations and for-profit entities. He has an extensive background working with a variety of clients on issues related to public utilities, public schools, counties and municipal corporations, independent K-12 schools, hospitals, long-term care facilities, senior living communities, and other 501(c)(3) organizations. Tom earned his J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center.
