Dinsmore Remembers Kermin "Ike" E. Fleming

It is with heavy hearts we announce the loss of one of Dinsmore & Shohl’s own. Kermin “Ike” Fleming passed away on March 31.
Ike was a partner in Dinsmore’s Lexington office and practiced for 40 years handling commercial real estate matters. According to Ike’s brother Bob, Ike’s affection for real estate law came from their father, who also practiced in the area and passed away when the boys were young.
A modest and private person, Ike’s clients were as dedicated to him as he was to them. He represented several lenders and developers in the Lexington, Kentucky area – many of whom shared a long professional history with him.
“Ike was a friend and colleague to his clients and all of us at Dinsmore,” said Chauncey Curtz, Office Managing Partner of the Lexington office. “He had a lot of skill and experience – he was truly an asset and he will be missed.”
In 1979, Ike and Bob decided to start their own firm with two other colleagues, which merged with Woodward, Hobson & Fulton LLP in 2003. Bob remembered the culture shock he and Ike felt when they went from a four-person firm to an over 50-person firm and an even larger firm when Woodward merged with Dinsmore in 2009.
“When you’ve practiced for 28 years in a small practice and go to a large one, it was an adjustment,“ Bob, who is also a partner at Dinsmore, said. “But Ike enjoyed practicing law and the association with Dinsmore.”
Even more than practicing law, Ike cherished his family. Ike is survived by Debbie, his wife of 35 years, and their two children, of whom he was extremely proud – both PhDs with impressive careers of their own.
Bob added, “He loved his practice, and he loved his family.”
