John Spires is a member of Dinsmore’s Corporate Department and Bankruptcy & Restructuring Practice Group. John has experience representing both creditors and debtors in complex bankruptcy cases and workouts outside of the bankruptcy system, and he has litigated a number of contested matters arising in bankruptcy cases. John has also successfully defended clients on claims ranging from demands for the return of alleged preferential and fraudulent transfers to claims for breach of the automatic stay.
In addition to his bankruptcy practice, John also has extensive experience in the commercial litigation context. John has specifically represented clients in cases involving claims for breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and other business-related issues. John has practiced before Kentucky's federal and state trial courts, the Kentucky Court of Appeals, the Kentucky Supreme Court, and United States Bankruptcy Courts in multiple states. John’s litigation experience allows him to steer his clients to a good result in any disputed matter.
Before joining Dinsmore, John served as a law clerk to the Honorable Jennifer B. Coffman, United States District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky.
In addition to Dinsmore, John serves on the Board of Directors of the Central Kentucky YMCA and as a Hearing Officer for the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government’s Division of Code Enforcement. John is also an active member of Second Presbyterian Church, where he serves on the Personnel Committee. Finally, John and his wife, Stephanie, have acted as foster parents for a number of amazing children.
