Dinsmore Adds Three Partners in Chicago Office

September 5, 2014News Releases
Dinsmore & Shohl adds three stand-out Partners to the Chicago office, enhancing the service offering to clients and expanding that location to include Intellectual Property, Real Estate and Insurance Litigation practitioners.

The new additions include Jason M. Wejnert, who brings his Intellectual Property (IP) practice to Dinsmore from Kirkland & Ellis. Gloria L. Materre joins the firm’s Corporate Department to practice out of the real estate group, and Thomas G. Drennan joins the firm’s Litigation Department to focus on insurance coverage disputes. Each of the new attorneys fits Chicago Managing Partner Robert “Bobby” Lucas’ strategic plan for growth, which is focused on targeting attorneys who complement the existing dynamic in the office.

“I’m not looking to just increase the headcount because that doesn’t add value to how we serve our clients,” said Lucas. “My goal is to find the right attorneys who can bring a new offering to our office and continue to build on the core services we provide to clients. It’s a huge gain for the Chicago office and the firm to pick up attorneys of the highest caliber like Jason, Gloria and Tom. I would be thrilled to welcome just one of them, but I’m lucky to bring all three on board.”

Jason Wejnert not only adds to Chicago’s growing numbers, but he also expands that office into an entirely new service area. At Kirkland & Ellis, Wejnert served as a Senior Patent Litigator, counseling his clients through all aspects of their IP related issues. His practice focused on patents involving Internet and wireless protocols, telecommunications, software, hardware and database systems. Wejnert spent nine years working as an engineer for tech companies like Intel Corp., Medtronic Inc. and Motorola Inc. before earning his J.D. from Arizona State University College of Law. He received a degree in Engineering Physics from Cornell University, a Masters in Electrical Engineering with a Certificate in Telecommunications Engineering from Columbia University, and an M.B.A. in Technology Management from Arizona State University College of Business.

Gloria Materre’s most recent focus has been to serve the state of Illinois in executive leadership roles, including as Executive Director of the Illinois Liquor Control Authority and the Illinois Housing Development Authority and as Deputy Chief of Staff to Illinois Governor Pat Quinn. Prior to her government sector work, Materre was the principal attorney at the law firm she created, Materre & Associates P.C. Over the years, she created a national client base in the media & entertainment industry that includes BET and CBS, as well as placing on-air talent for the Opera Winfrey Show. Her practice also focused on corporate and real estate law, housing finance, and business and community development. She earned her J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law and her B.A. from the University of Wisconsin- Madison.

Thomas Drennan comes to Dinsmore from Tressler LLP where his litigation practice focused on insurance coverage disputes, insurance bad faith claims, fraud and misrepresentation claims, contractual liability issues, spoliation claims, infliction of emotional distress claims as well as other insurance issues. He has represented insurers in state and federal courts throughout the country and also represented foreign insurers on claims in the United States. Drennan earned his J.D. from Indiana University Maurer School of Law and his B.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign.

The new additions highlight the firm’s commitment to growing the Chicago office. In the past four months, eight attorneys have made the move to Dinsmore. The firm gained offices in Chicago and Denver through the Peck Shaffer merger.
