Dinsmore & Shohl’s Mindy Barfield honored by Fayette County Bar Association

Dinsmore & Shohl’s Mindy Barfield received the “Citizen Lawyer Award” from the Fayette County Bar Association (FCBA) for her professional and volunteer work within the community.

Barfield was nominated by Marian Guinn, Chief Executive Officer of the God’s Pantry Food Bank, for her commitment to the legal profession and her efforts to improve the quality of life in Fayette County. Barfield has volunteered and has been a member of the Board of Directors with God’s Pantry for 14 of the past 16 years.

“Mindy serves as a regular volunteer in our Fayette County pantries and with other special events. She routinely serves as a sounding board for members of our executive team when we need legal guidance,” said Guinn. In 2009, God’s Pantry Food Bank presented her with the "The Consummate Counselor Award” for that guidance.

Barfield received the “Citizen Lawyer Award” on May 1st at the FCBA’s Law Day Celebration. A committee of former Bar Association Presidents compiles nominations from bar members and the community to determine the award recipient.

In addition to her work at God’s Pantry, Barfield chairs the Faith Pharmacy Advisory Board that supports a pharmacy for indigent Fayette County residents and also serves on the Fayette County Pro Bono committee and Legal Aid of the Bluegrass. She is a member of the Board of Regents at Kentucky State University and serves on the Board of Trustees at Transylvania University. She was also named as a “Future Star’ in Benchmark Litigation.

Barfield also remains very active in the FCBA, having previously served as past President, Vice President, Treasurer, Auditor and Secretary. She is the Grants Chair of the Fayette County Bar Foundation. She has had leadership roles through the Kentucky Bar Association on the KBA Annual Convention Planning Committee and as Convention Chair in 2010. She also served on the Kentucky Supreme Court Subcommittee on Mass Torts and Class Action Reform and was appointed a Special Justice to the Kentucky Supreme Court.

Barfield received the Kentucky “Outstanding Young Lawyer Award” in 2002 and the “Fayette County Outstanding Young Lawyer Award” in 1999. She was named one of the Leading Women of Central Kentucky by Business Lexington in 2010.
