Dinsmore & Shohl’s Louisville office has joined the Legal Aid Society’s Leadership Cabinet for the first time. The office donated $15,000 to the Legal Aid Society to help continue its mission to pursue justice for people in poverty. Because all Louisville associate participated, the group received an “Associates for Justice” listing for their 100% donation rate.

The office was also honored with the “Legal Aid Society Flame” Award for outstanding contributions by advocacy to those in need of legal services. Dinsmore Partner Michael Merrick volunteers with the Legal Aid Society. According to Merrick, the majority of the cases involve domestic violence with a woman seeking protection from a man.

“This recognition really speaks to our attorneys’ commitment to further the mission of the Legal Aid Society and to help those who need a lawyer but cannot afford one. Many times, these cases involve the most vulnerable members of our community,” said John Selent, Louisville Office Managing Partner.

The Legal Aid Society provides free legal services to the most disadvantaged in the community. In 2012, Legal Aid helped 3,861 people in the Louisville area.
