Steve Schweller, a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), is a partner in the Litigation Department. Steve has represented insurance carriers, agents and third-party administrators in significant litigation, mediations, and arbitrations around the country, including coverage and bad faith cases, adversary proceedings in bankruptcy, collections matters, and declaratory judgment actions concerning premium charges, reserving practices, claims handling, and other policy-related disputes. On occasion, Steve also has advised policyholders with regard to coverage or claims issues. Additionally, he has worked on statutory liquidations of insurance companies, including serving as outside counsel to the Ohio Superintendent of Insurance in the liquidation of a failed property/casualty insurance company. Steve also provides insurance-related "preventive lawyering" in the form of coverage opinions, claim investigation, and pre-litigation advice. While a large part of his practice concerns insurance-related issues and disputes, it also extends to non-insurance related matters. Steve has extensive experience with products liability and mass tort litigation, Medicare Secondary Payer Act compliance, and general business disputes involving negligence, fraud and/or breach of contract claims.
