OSBA Corporate Counsel Institute - CLE

November 5, 2021
Columbus, OH

This year’s Corporate Counsel Institute will feature sessions on managing company privacy compliance, cybersecurity risks and risk management for in-house counsel. A discussion of COVID-19 workplace issues and the return to work challenges businesses will face post-pandemic will also be addressed.

Michael J. Ferrara will discuss how money laundering works in the real world. An overview of steps that businesses and financial institutions can take to protect themselves and ensure compliance will be provided.

Jan E. Hensel will discuss how over the past 20 months employers have been forced to learn about and adjust to a myriad of laws, regulations and orders that have dramatically affected their workplaces. This presentation will include a brief review of the legal obligations to which employers have been required to adjust, an assessment of current COVID-related workplace requirements and a discussion of how these changes may continue to impact your workplaces going forward.

William M. Mattes and Heidi Wagner Dorn's session provides a thorough overview of those ethical issues and the application of the Ohio Rules of Professional Conduct. Topics such as “Who is the Client?,” confidentiality and conflicts of interest will be addressed. Additionally, this session will delve into the recent developments in multi-jurisdictional practice. This topic will meet the general ethics requirement and provide critical information on the continued ethical practice of law in Ohio.

Justin M. Burns will review some of the biggest cases from the past Supreme Court term – from cases affecting collegiate athletics, to when police officers can chase fleeing suspects into homes, to when a business can be sued. We will also analyze how a new justice affected the outcome of cases and look ahead at how changes to the Supreme Court might affect businesses and our individual liberties into the future.
