Medical Malpractice Partner Jessica Davis Joins Dinsmore’s Growing National Litigation Group

February 16, 2021News Releases

Dinsmore & Shohl LLP is pleased to welcome partner Jessica Davis to its Columbus office. She will practice with the firm’s national commercial litigation group, which has added 25 partners across the country already in 2021, including 15 in its merger with Wooden McLaughlin and eight as part of its annual partner class.

Davis joins from Brennan Manna Diamond, where she led the firm’s medical defense group. She found her passion defending hospitals and physicians in medical negligence claims while at Roetzel & Andress for 14 years, where she was mentored by Thomas Dillon, a highly respected litigator. She specializes in medical malpractice defense, including for hospitals, physicians, nursing homes and home health care agencies. She also defends clients in situations involving fraud, premises liability, product liability and professional negligence.

“I genuinely enjoy helping my clients defend these claims,” Davis said. “I’m fascinated by the medical field and love to learn about it so I can maximize my effectiveness.”

The demand for Davis’ services has been high during the pandemic. There has been an explosion of medical malpractice work in recent months, not directly related to COVID-19 health care services, but because courts were closed for so long in the beginning of the pandemic, leading to a logjam of complaints. Davis said she does not expect COVID-related cases to start arriving on her desk, due to Ohio legislation that grants immunity to health care providers from cases directly related to the coronavirus. But even during this difficult time for health care professionals, Davis says her clients have remained exceptional.

“They are so resilient,” Davis said. “Imagine a physician needs to meet with me about a case while also addressing her increased load of COVID patients. When people say health care providers are heroes, it’s true. And they’re somehow more proactive than ever to review claims with me, defend them and/or work to reach a resolution.”

Davis’ experience fantastically complements Dinsmore’s Columbus office—the fourth-largest law firm in the capital city--where she has joined 24 other commercial litigators and 17 health care industry attorneys, including Office Managing Partner Stacey Borowicz.

“Jessica adds depth to our commercial litigation team in Columbus and expands our ability to serve our hospital and health care clients,” Borowicz said.

Davis was motivated to join Dinsmore for both the culture and the opportunity to collaborate with attorneys in various specialties, including medical negligence, which Chairman and Managing Partner George Vincent explained to her prior to coming aboard.

“One thing that became clear to me in my conversations with George is that Dinsmore is committed to providing high-quality service to its clients,” Davis said. “The firm values excellence and expects it. I was very impressed by that.”

Davis earned her J.D. from Capital University Law School following her B.A. in interpersonal communication from University of Central Florida – a degree she credits for her success as both a litigator and a trial attorney.
