Nelson A. McKown

Biography

Nelson works with a variety of clients and focuses his practice on traditional labor and a multitude of employment-related litigation matters, along with, government relations.  He has experience guiding companies through complex labor issues including, union organizing campaigns; providing supervisory training; issues related to collective bargaining negotiations; and litigating issues before the National Labor Relations Board.

Nelson also focuses on defending companies and supervisors in discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful discharge, tort, and contract cases. He has experience in matters involving the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, the National Labor Relations Act, the West Virginia Human Rights Act, and the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.  He also has experience representing companies in state and federal court, as well as, before the West Virginia Public Service Commission, the West Virginia Human Rights Commission, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. 

Nelson is also a registered lobbyist in West Virginia and advocates on behalf of the firm’s clients before the West Virginia Legislature and state agencies.  He has played a key role in the passage of business friendly legislation, and has testified before the West Virginia House of Delegates. 

He received his J.D. from the West Virginia University College of Law, where he was a member of the United States Supreme Court Clinic.
