Dinsmore & Shohl LLP continues to expand in California, welcoming Adrian R. Cyhan as a partner to the San Diego office. Cyhan’s extensive intellectual property experience provides enhanced services to clients and also expands that office into an entirely new service area.

Cyhan’s practice focuses on intellectual property law, particularly technology transactions. He routinely structures and negotiates a broad array of technology-related arrangements such as IP licenses, collaboration and outsourced technology development agreements, IT outsourcing contracts, sponsored research agreements, confidentiality and other technology-focused business agreements. He regularly counsels clients on protecting and leveraging intellectual property assets such as patents, trademarks and copyrights. Having practiced for nearly 15 years as a registered patent attorney, Cyhan is also experienced in prosecuting patent applications in areas such as medical devices, wireless communications, software and “green” technologies.

“Adrian’s practice complements the work we are currently doing on the litigation side and allows us to serve all our clients’ IP needs by making sure their innovation is protected,” said Joe Leventhal, San Diego Office Managing Partner.

Cyhan comes to Dinsmore from Stewart PLLC and has also practiced with firms in San Diego, Chicago and Detroit. Prior to earning his J.D., Adrian worked as a design and evaluation engineer at Toyota Technical Center, USA where he developed vehicle components and relationships with component suppliers.

Dinsmore’s Intellectual Property Department Chair Joshua Lorentz says adding Cyhan to the team is a strategic move to strengthen his department and expand in a key location.

“With the wealth of advanced research happening throughout the country and particularly along the California coast, there is a great need to deepen our IP transactional practice. The addition of Adrian gives us one of the more formidable IP transactional practices in the nation,” said Lorentz.

Cyhan earned his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School and received his Bachelor of Science in Materials Science Engineering from the University of Norte Dame.

In addition to Cyhan, Labor and Employment Partner Adriana Cara and IP Associate Christina Forteza also joined Dinsmore’s San Diego office in January.
