Dinsmore Names New Practice Group Chairs

Dinsmore & Shohl LLP names three attorneys as Practice Group Chairs.

Carolyn M. Brown has been named chair of the firm’s Environmental Group in the Litigation Department. Karen K. Gaunt will lead the newly created Trademarks Practice Group in the Intellectual Property Department. John “J.H.” Mahaney has been named co-chair of the Tort Practice Group. Mahaney oversees the group with Linsey “Lin” W. West, who continues in his role as co-chair. The Tort Practice Group is part of the Litigation Department.

Carolyn Brown’s understanding of environmental law makes her an invaluable resource to her clients. Her practice focuses on all areas of environmental law and includes counseling on regulatory requirements, permitting and transactional issues as well as environmental litigation. She spends a significant amount of time dealing with air permitting and compliance issues, water discharge permitting and compliance issues, as well as waste management and site remediation matters. She is a partner in the firm’s Lexington office.

Karen Kreider Gaunt is a partner in the Cincinnati office, leading the firm’s branding and advertising practice. She counsels clients on both transactional and litigation matters involving all aspects of domestic and international trademark and branding matters, copyright, advertising, Internet, licensing, promotions and marketing matters. Gaunt has received numerous awards and honors, and most recently, she was recognized in World Trademark Review’s WTR 1,000 where she was recognized for her strategic counseling in transactional and enforcement matters.

J.H. Mahaney is a partner in the Huntington, WV office. Recognized for his work on a variety of complex, high exposure cases, Mahaney has extensive trial and appellate experience in a wide variety of litigation matters. He has extensive experience litigating claims against transportation companies, product liability claims, mass tort claims and a variety of professional liability claims. His practice also includes complex commercial and business litigation, including corporate and contract disputes, real estate claims, unfair competition and intellectual property litigation.

Lin West is a partner in the firm’s Lexington office. West’s practice has been primarily in product liability, railroad defense, medical/hospital defense and commercial litigation. He has over 25 years of trial experience in federal and state courts and has substantial experience in multi-district litigation.
