Dinsmore & Shohl’s Harvey Cohen to address succession issues at IBA Conference

Dinsmore & Shohl’s Harvey Cohen will lead a key session at the upcoming Annual Conference of the International Bar Association (IBA), The Global Voice of the Legal Profession. The conference will be held in Boston, MA the week of October 7, 2013.

Cohen’s session, “Protecting your business for and from the next generation,” focuses on succession planning for family owned businesses. Participants will see the interplay and the differences of U.S., European and Latin American laws. The topics include preparing the business for the successor, making the business transfer tax efficient, and dealing with forced heirship and hostile co-owners.

“Leading a collaboration of the Personal Tax and Closely Held and Growing Business Enterprises Committees is an honor I appreciate and bolsters the collaborative goals of the IBA,” remarked Cohen.

Cohen serves as Membership Officer of the IBA’s Closely Held and Growing Business Enterprises Committee, will become its Vice Chair at new years and is also a member of the IBA’s Bar Issues Commission and the IBA Council, which serves as the member governing body of the IBA. The IBA is the world’s leading organization of international legal practitioners, counting more than 50,000 attorneys and 200 bar associations among its members.

At Dinsmore, Cohen practices corporate law encompassing nearly every facet of domestic and international business. He routinely represents outbound U.S. businesses and inbound non-U.S.-owned entities. He chairs the firm’s International Business Practice Group and is the Co-Chair Emeritus of ALFA® International’s International Law Practice Group
