Douglas G. Metcalf Joins Dinsmore’s Ann Arbor Office

Douglas G. Metcalf joins Dinsmore & Shohl LLP’s Ann Arbor office as an associate in the firm’s Intellectual Property Department.

Metcalf comes to Dinsmore from Foley Hoag LLP in Boston where he drafted and prosecuted patent applications protecting medical implants, pharmaceuticals, and biotech-related products. Metcalf is experienced at coordinating the global patent prosecution of life science patent applications in jurisdictions including the United States, Europe, Israel, India, Russia, China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil.

Metcalf served as a non-affiliated member of the Partners Healthcare Institutional Review Board where he reviewed and approved clinical research conducted at Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and McLean Hospital. Metcalf interned for Magistrate Judge Marianne B. Bowler of the District of Massachusetts while she notably presided over United States v. James J. Bulger.

Metcalf received his J.D. from Boston University School of Law where was editor of the Journal of Science and Technology Law. He received a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, and he completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Riley Heart Center at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
