Tom Whelley, a partner in Dinsmore & Shohl LLP’s Dayton office, was recently awarded one of the Montgomery County legal system’s top honors for his significant dedication to the court’s mediation process.

The Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas honored Whelley with the General Division's Mediation Service Award for 2017 due in large part to the amount of cases he mediated and resolved in 2016. He received high marks in peer evaluations, and among other accolades, Whelley’s peers praised his dedication and professionalism, observing that he does not quit until the case is settled. He was also praised for doing a great job in reducing costs for the parties in litigation.

“It is gratifying to be recognized for my service to the courts, and by my peers”, Whelley said. ”I truly enjoy the mediation challenges and I look forward to continuing to work closely with the courts to obtain the best outcomes for the litigants”.

Understanding that litigation can be costly, Whelley also works with the firm’s clients as an advocate to develop strategies for finding resolutions short of the courtroom. With more than 30 years of litigation experience, Whelley brings a communication-driven approach to provide clients with the counsel they need. He has litigated a variety of complex business cases, ranging from shareholder disputes to accounting malpractice to broker dealer actions. He also has a wealth of experience in product liability matters, having tried a variety of chemical exposure cases, as well as cases for industrial and marine products.
