Biography
Tip's practice focuses on complex corporate, administrative law and litigation matters involving utilities, life science companies, financial institutions and other regulated industries.
His primary area of practice has been focused on the utility arena, where he has accumulated a thorough knowledge of utility law and business in the telecommunications, energy, electric, water, wastewater, and gas industries. Drawing on his prior in-house counsel experience, Tip works closely with clients to provide practical advice that harmonizes business objectives with the evolving legal and regulatory landscape. A valued partner in business planning and contractual negotiations, Tip also appears frequently before regulators and in court, when necessary, to resolve issues that arise occasionally with customers or other utilities. He has unique experience working extensively with electric and telephone cooperatives, and he has a particular interest in helping clients implement advanced technology and innovation in the utility industries. A native Kentuckian, Tip is also proud to have helped negotiate and implement significant broadband and energy-related P3 projects across the Commonwealth.
Tip also assists clients in the life sciences and healthcare industries with various clinical research, regulatory and corporate matters. He has a working knowledge of the various regulatory, financial, intellectual property, and related business and legal issues that impact drug/device development, and he enjoys counseling these companies as they grow their business and/or position themselves for an appropriate exit strategy.
He has also assisted large financial institutions with various regulatory compliance and litigation matters, including safety and soundness audits, complex regulatory questions involving Regulation Z and the Truth in Lending Act, and estate litigation.
