Dinsmore & Shohl LLP now has a public finance presence in Chicago with the addition of associate Matthew Ingersoll, a Chicago native who joins the firm after three years with a local government boutique.

Dinsmore’s roster of nearly 50 public finance attorneys spans the country, with a significant presence in Ohio, Kentucky, Colorado, and Pennsylvania. Ingersoll’s arrival in the firm’s Chicago office is the latest step in an upward trajectory in the city that saw the Dinsmore expand into a larger, customized office in late 2019.

“Dinsmore has a robust public finance practice, and I knew the opportunity to work with the people here was too good to pass up,” Ingersoll said. “The firm, and this office in particular, has an entrepreneurial spirit. I’m excited to be part of that, grow the firm’s public finance practice in Chicago, and continue developing in my career.”

A focus of his practice is the tax component of public finance, including the use of proceeds, private use, arbitrage, and rebate compliance. He also acts as bond counsel, disclosure counsel, underwriter’s counsel, and issuer’s counsel for various public and private clients.

“We’re excited to have Matt join our public finance team and our Chicago office,” said Dinsmore Finance Department Chair Tom Wilson. “In addition to focusing his practice in the Section 103 tax area, he brings considerable experience working with numerous Chicagoland government entities.”

Ingersoll, who plays hockey in his spare time and is a member of the Chicago Blackhawk Alumni Association, earned his J.D. from UIC John Marshall Law School in 2012 following a B.S. in Finance from Florida State University.
