After seven years of dedicated service to the West Virginia Board of Education and West Virginia Department of Education, Mary Catherine “MC” Tuckwiller has rejoined Dinsmore’s education law group in Lewisburg, WV. She brings an essential understanding of West Virginia education law and policy, enhancing the service clients already receive.

Tuckwiller has managed teacher licensure proceedings for the state superintendent and will advise counties on employee discipline, both before and during the grievance process. She understands nuances of student discipline, special education issues—including IDEA, IEPs, and §504 plans—and policy drafting. Tuckwiller is also well versed in the Open Meetings Act and FOIA management.

“As a former teacher, I understand first-hand the hard work of our school system employees,” she said.  “I look forward to applying all that I have learned over the past seven years of government service to provide robust and informed counsel to our clients. My return to Dinsmore is natural, and I am thrilled to be back.”

Dinsmore Education Practice Group Chair Jason Long is similarly excited for the enhanced service clients will receive from Tuckwiller.

“We provide a broad and personalized service to our county education clients,” he said. “MC knows the key issues in education law.She knows the approaches that work and those that don’t, and she will guide our clients in the right direction. We are particularly excited for her to bring her knowledge of personnel, licensure, and special education back to Dinsmore.”

Tuckwiller’s addition continues Dinsmore’s trend of strategic, client-focused growth. The firm has expanded by more than 13% since the beginning of 2021, having added nearly 100 attorneys across the country in practice areas and locations most pertinent to the needs of clients. In September, three attorneys joined the firm across West Virginia, including immigration partner Michelle Salter, and associates focused on corporate and commercial litigation work.
