Pilar advises clients on complex tax matters where her uniquely comprehensive perspective serves to benefit her clients. A former Senior Counsel of the IRS Office of Chief Counsel, Pilar served at the IRS for nearly 12 years and in total brings more than 16 years of focused tax experience to help her clients navigate high-stakes tax controversy matters and sophisticated, transaction-driven tax issues. Her rare combination of deep government insight and substantial private‑practice experience offers clients not only effective strategies but needed clarity and confidence.

During her tenure at the IRS, Pilar served as the National Office’s leading authority on closing agreements, prefiling agreements, and non‑statutory agreements. In this role, she resolved complex tax controversies spanning a wide range of technical issues and collaborated closely with IRS Examination and Appeals, the U.S. Department of Justice, and the U.S. Department of the Treasury. She has drafted national guidance, including regulations, and a revenue procedure, and litigated matters in the U.S. Tax Court on behalf of both taxpayers and the government.

This insider experience gives Pilar an unmatched understanding of how tax positions are evaluated, challenged, and resolved within the federal tax system. Today, she applies that perspective to help clients resolve disputes efficiently, proactively manage tax risk, and structure transactions with greater certainty. Her singular background enables her to anticipate government approaches, develop practical strategies, and deliver solutions grounded in extensive institutional knowledge that equips clients with strategic advantages in both controversy and transactional contexts.
