Ryan’s practice is focused on drafting, filing, and prosecuting patent applications in the chemical and biochemical arts in the United States and abroad. He has experience representing clients in cell therapy, gene therapy, diagnostic assays, pharmaceuticals, proteomics, biologics, biomedical devices, nanotechnology, coating technology, and polymer science.
Ryan guides universities, academic medical centers, and their spin-off enterprises on complex research commercialization strategies. Drawing on decades of experience, he helps institutions transform scientific discoveries from academic laboratories into commercially viable marketplace assets. By collaborating closely with technology transfer offices and researchers, Ryan aligns patent strategy with broader business objectives to maximize the value of institutional innovation.
Before becoming a patent attorney, Ryan worked as a research technician at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and as a quality assurance associate at Dendreon Corporation in Seattle, Washington. During law school, Ryan worked in the Life Science Division of the Case Western Reserve University Office of Technology Transfer.
