Jeffrey A. Deiuliis, Ph.D.

Associate

Jeffrey focuses his practice on patent prosecution and strategic portfolio development, advising clients and companies operating in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, chemical, and medical technology sectors. With more than a decade of scientific leadership and research experience, he helps clients translate complex innovations into strong, commercially aligned patent protection.

Before entering the legal profession, Jeffrey earned his doctorate in biology from The Ohio State University and held faculty appointments at the University of Maryland, Baltimore and Case Western Reserve University, where he was awarded NIH funding for his research. At CWRU, he served in both the Cardiovascular Research Institute and the Center for RNA Science and Therapeutics. During his academic career he authored thirty‑eight peer‑reviewed articles in scientific journals. He also directed CWRU’s Mouse Metabolic Phenotyping Core, a state‑of‑the‑art facility supporting academic and industry partners in evaluating metabolic responses to therapeutic interventions, including small‑molecule treatments for obesity and insulin resistance. His scientific expertise is further demonstrated through his service as a grant reviewer for organizations such as University College London and the American College of Surgeons, as well as his work on the editorial board of a respected basic‑science journal and his peer‑review contributions to more than eighteen journals in cardiometabolic disease, immunology, and microRNA biology.

This research background gives Jeffrey practical insight into how technologies move from the laboratory to the marketplace, providing clients with counsel who understands the legal, scientific, and commercial complexities behind innovation. He brings this technical depth to his IP practice to work seamlessly with inventors, assess novelty and patentability, and develop portfolios that support long‑term business and commercialization goals.
