Justin is a trusted advisor in complex, high-stakes matters, known for bringing passion and creativity to advocacy. Before private practice, he spent two years clerking for a federal judge, where he saw firsthand how courts evaluate advocacy and decide difficult issues. Justin now draws on that perspective to help clients see their cases through the eyes of courts and juries. His practice focuses on commercial litigation, with an emphasis on civil rights and constitutional matters.
He has secured favorable outcomes in matters ranging from small neighborhood disputes to multi-million-dollar cases, including several that drew widespread media attention. Whatever the stakes, Justin uses the same passionate advocacy with a creative lens to find paths others may overlook. That approach led to unique successes – examples include successfully defending a public official by leveraging a unique provision in the Ohio Constitution and obtaining first-of-its-kind federal relief for a physician using historical writs.
Justin is also a frequent voice in the legal community and an advocate for innovation. He has led dozens of continuing education programs and community seminars, published original work, and trained public officials across Ohio. He also serves on the Firm’s innovation and e-discovery committees and advises clients on defensible e-discovery protocols to mitigate expenses.
Justin’s work has been recognized by Super Lawyers Magazine as a Rising Star (an honor given to only 2.5% of attorneys in each state), by Phi Gamma Delta as one of its “18 under 48” graduates, and within the Firm as the Alice J. Neely Difference Maker (awarded to one associate each year). He serves as Vice-Chairman of the Ohio State Bar Association’s Litigation Section, coaches law school advocacy teams, and remains active in community organizations. In his free time, he cheers on the Ohio State Buckeyes and Columbus Crew and is studying to become fluent in French.
