Rudy J. Ellis III is a partner in the Louisville office of Dinsmore & Shohl LLP, where he focuses his practice on labor and employment litigation and counseling. He represents employers in a wide range of workplace disputes, including discrimination, retaliation, and wage and hour claims, and provides day-to-day advice and counsel to employers on workplace policies, internal investigations, and other employment-related matters. Rudy also regularly advised and represents several public school boards of education in employment matters, personal disputes, and other related matters.
Rudy handles all phases of litigation, from early case evaluation and motion practice to depositions, mediation, and trial preparation. In addition to his employment practice, he has years of experience litigating commercial, business, insurance defense, and general litigation disputes, giving him a practical perspective when advising clients on risk and strategy. He also advises clients on Name, Image, and Likeness (“NIL”) agreements and related collegiate athletics matters.
Rudy earned his J.D. from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law, where he served as president of the Student Bar Association and was a member of the University of Louisville Law Review and Moot Court Board. He received his B.A. in journalism from Indiana University. Rudy currently serves on the board of the Kentucky Defense Counsel representing District 4, and is also the Chair-Elect of the CGI Charitable Giving Fund.
Outside of his practice, Rudy enjoys spending time with his wife and their two children. A lifelong sports fan, he closely follows both the University of Louisville and Indiana University and has spent years defending the perfectly reasonable position that rooting for both is not a conflict of interest.
