Acclaimed Labor Attorney Frank T. Mamat Joins Dinsmore in Detroit

Dinsmore & Shohl LLP has welcomed Frank T. Mamat to the national firm’s Detroit office. Mamat is a well-known labor, campaign finance and election law attorney whose work spans decades and includes representation of many large employers, principally in the construction industry, as well as United States presidents, governors, congressmen and senators.

Mamat began his labor work with an appointment to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) in the 1970s. In the decades since, he has deftly counseled businesses of all sizes in union negotiations, ERISA, OSHA and pension fund withdrawal liability matters.

He is the latest of several additions to Dinsmore’s Detroit office, which now has seven labor and employment attorneys, and earlier this year added a prominent mergers and acquisitions team led by partner Joe DeVito.

“After leading the labor groups at several firms in Michigan, this felt like the right time to join Dinsmore,” Mamat said. “The firm is growing fast, and as one of the go-to attorneys for labor and union issues in the state, I am excited to come to Dinsmore at this particular time.”

Mamat is joining Dinsmore’s nationally awarded labor and employment department at a crucial time, as the legal community is bracing for changes to the National Labor Relations Act by way of passage of the PRO Act, which could significantly alter employers’ rights when it comes to union activities. As an author of Michigan’s 2013 Right-To-Work Law, Mamat is uniquely positioned to help clients through this time.

“Frank is a great addition to Dinsmore and to our labor team locally,” said Dinsmore Michigan Office Managing Partner Mark Schneider. “His experience counseling businesses of all sizes and his intimate knowledge of Michigan labor laws complement our existing team of attorneys and will allow the firm to provide increased value to our clients.”

In addition to his work in private practice, Mamat is also the co-founder of the Jewish Bar Association of Michigan and has been the general counsel of the Republican Party of Oakland County since 1986.
