Patent Associate - Chemical Engineering

Cincinnati, OH

Responsibilities

Utilize background in chemical engineering to assist with patent applications and patent prosecution.  Prepare and file patent applications for chemical engineering intellectual property.  Perform prior art searches and prepare patent drawings.  Interview inventors and discuss patent filing strategy in English and Korean languages.  Work with supervising attorneys to respond to USPTO office actions.  Prepare declarations and documents relating to the filing with the USPTO.  Support IP litigation by advising on chemical engineering issues in preparation for written briefs or depositions.  Roving employee – Duties may be located at any Dinsmore & Shohl, LLP office throughout the U.S.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher (or foreign educational equivalent) in Chemical Engineering.  This position also requires a Juris Doctorate.  Must also have the following licensures:  Admission to a U.S. state bar and USPTO registration.  In addition to degrees, must have at least three years of post-baccalaureate experience in patent preparation and prosecution.  Position also requires professional fluency in English and Korean languages.

Information Systems Desktop Technician

The desktop technician position is to provide technical support for the firm's computer systems, applications, and related technology with Dinsmore & Shohl LLP.  The role includes maintaining, analyzing, troubleshooting, and repairing computer hardware, software, and peripherals. This includes, but is not limited to, support for all firm approved desktops, laptops, peripheral equipment, mobile devices, video-conferencing equipment, network, and software. The desktop technician reports to the IT director.

Responsibilities

  • Document, maintain, upgrade, or replace hardware and software systems according to the firm's policies and procedures
  • Facilitate escalation of problems, issues, and requests to other IT department roles as necessary
  • Participate in and contribute to various IT department projects and initiatives
  • Maintain positive contact with attorneys, staff, and clients and observe confidentiality in all firm and client matters
  • Troubleshoot problems associated with any PC hardware, software, peripherals, and network connectivity; determine necessary repair, modifications, and testing of such systems
  • Monitor incoming helpdesk ticket queues.  Ticket and issue triage, resolution and escalation if required
  • Desktop/laptop imaging, installation and moves; performing system setup procedures on desktop/laptop for end-user; performing configuration changes and software installs

  • Tracks, monitors and actively pursues collection of unpaid invoices for the Firm's multiple locations
  • Works closely with billing attorneys in order to determine best course of action on a delinquent client account

Dinsmore & Shohl LLP, a national law firm with over 750 attorneys in 29 cities across the country, currently has an excellent opportunity for an Office Services Clerk to join our Columbus, Ohio office.  The ideal candidate will receive on-the-job training to work in a busy document production office handling, but not limited to, copiers, scanners, fax machines, and audio video equipment. 

You will perform a variety of clerical duties including:

  • Assist the document production center with CD burning, copying, scanning, and faxing or e-faxing
  • Assist with collection, sorting and delivery of daily mail, overnight packages, faxes, and other items, as needed
  • Assist with conference room set-ups, including audio visual, refreshments and clean up
  • Assist with office inventory and supplies
  • Assist with reception desk coverage
