Dinsmore & Shohl LLP and individual attorneys earn spot on prestigious trademark list

Dinsmore IP partners James Dimitrijevs, Karen Gaunt, Grant Monachino and Lynda Roesch have been recognized by World Trademark Review (WTR) in its 2020 edition of WTR 1000, a listing of the standout firms and attorneys in trademark law. Dinsmore & Shohl LLP was also one of five firms to receive recognition in Ohio and the only firm in Ohio with more than three attorneys ranked.

WTR 1000 breaks down the global field into regions and is the only standalone directory that focuses entirely on trademark law. It searches each market to identify the top firms and attorneys. To compile the list, researchers solicit reviews over a four-month period from hundreds of clients and lawyers. Firms are judged by the depth of services they provide in support of the top trademark attorneys.

According to WTR 1000, Dinsmore & Shohl LLP “has a sizeable and solid trademark practice run by extremely accomplished lawyers” and is a repository of trust for many marquee global brands. Operating a sophisticated internal management system, by utilising an advanced docketing system and leveraging the experience of a well-organised paralegal corps and team of staff, the set makes light work of global portfolio management affording partners more time to engage in the strategising and conflict resolution they are there for.”

Dimitrijevs advises domestic and international clients, such as major retailers, consumer products companies, and industrial manufacturers, on the worldwide strategic management of IP assets, including the protection and enforcement of trademarks and copyrights, and the licensing, acquisition, and sale of such assets. He works closely with in-house counsel to manage assets and to devise protection and enforcement strategies. In-house counsel entrusts him with developing and implementing procedures and protocols for a vast network of professionals throughout the world to efficiently and effectively protect and enforce trademark assets. He also provides counsel and representation for disputes related to false advertising, trademarks, and copyrights. Last year Dimitrijevs was named to World Trademark Review’s Best of the Best list and was recognized for his “ability to innovate, inspire, and go above and beyond to deliver for his clients.”

As chair of Dinsmore’s trademark practice group this is Gaunt’s fourth year listed in the WTR 1000 and her first year listed in the Gold Tier. She counsels clients on both transactional and litigation matters involving all aspects of domestic and international trademark and branding matters, copyright, advertising, internet, licensing, promotions and marketing matters. WTR mentions Gaunt is “a natural leader and extremely responsive lawyer…she is well-versed regarding TTAB proceedings – her writing is persuasive and she is practical at devising case strategies”. Gaunt regularly represents both plaintiffs and defendants in federal court in contentious trademark, copyright, and advertising disputes, and maintains a busy and active TTAB docket.

Monachino concentrates his intellectual property practice on managing domestic and international trademark portfolios, including the acquisition, clearance, exploitation, enforcement, and strategic planning of these assets. He also represents clients in trademark infringement, false advertising, copyright infringement, right of publicity and other unfair competition actions in both state and federal court.

With more than 30 years prosecuting trademark applications, Roesch focuses her practice on litigation involving intellectual property at the trial court and appellate levels. Roesch has also served as general counsel for the International Trademark Association.
