Dinsmore Takes the Plunge to Support the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

September 18, 2014News Releases
Dinsmore & Shohl is taking the plunge and doing the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to honor Julie Bonasera, wife of Partner Tom Bonasera and mother of Attorney Michael Bonasera. Julie lost her battle with ALS late last year.

The firm-wide Ice Bucket Challenge started with our Managing Partner and Chairman, George H. Vincent, who shivered through the challenge on August 15. The next week Corporate Department Chair Susan Zaunbrecher completed her challenge at the Reds game, followed by 30 Dinsmore attorneys and staff members in Columbus taking the plunge to honor Julie. In a show of support, the rest of the firm decided to undertake the Ice Bucket Challenge, and over the past month, more than $20,000 has been donated to ALS and Julie's ALS research fund at the Ohio State University.

“The donations that go the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center ALS research fund are an enormous benefit to the doctors and staff that care for ALS patients every day. The clinical doctors and researchers at Ohio State are some of the best in the world. They are searching for better treatment and maybe even someday a cure. The pace of that research has now picked up thanks to all of the attention and contributions,” said Tom Bonasera, Columbus Partner.

Bonasera went on to say, “Julie was always thinking of others so to know that her name is being spoken and that her struggles might help others in her memory is of great comfort. My thanks and gratitude cannot be expressed in words. I am just overwhelmed by all of you, your kind comments and good thoughts.”

The challenge has spread to each of Dinsmore's 16 offices throughout the country, with more than 150 attorneys and staff taking part. On Friday, September 19, it comes full circle back to the Cincinnati office to end our firm wide challenge. We hope you join us!
