February 12, 2024News Releases

For the third year in a row, Dinsmore & Shohl LLP’s trademark group has been recognized by World Trademark Review with a Gold ranking for Ohio in its annual WTR 1000 for 2024. For the first time, the group received recognition beyond Ohio and saw the largest number of Dinsmore attorneys receive individual rankings, including one who earned a national recognition on WTR’s first ever Transactions and Licensing list.

Dinsmore is one of just three law firms in Ohio this year to earn a Gold ranking. The group also received a Bronze ranking in Illinois. Firms that “undertake the most sophisticated work” earn a Gold status, according to the publication.

In its analysis, WTR quotes client feedback saying, “Dinsmore & Shohl ‘is highly committed to quality services from highly skilled attorneys, and establishes relationships based on trust, communication and responsiveness. The firm provides customized services and detailed opinions, and its approach of suggesting the best way forward and quick turnaround time make its services stand apart. The practice has highly qualified attorneys in the trademark field, who fully understand the nuances of the law.’”

Seven Dinsmore attorneys, up from five in 2023, were recognized in WTR 1000, including three who earned Gold status.

Cleveland office managing partner James Dimitrijevs’ Gold status rewards his work which extends beyond trademark portfolio management to domain rights. When counseling businesses from the retail and consumer goods industries, WTR has previously described Jim as a savvy international strategist.

Clients tell WTR Grant Monachino, who in 2024 also earned an individual Gold recognition, provides “timely, accurate, efficient and friendly counsel to us, offering a variety of IP legal services and advice. He holds the unique skill of providing high-quality legal advice while understanding the business needs of the clients. He consistently stays ahead of the ever-changing legal landscape, and is both an excellent attorney and the zealous yet practical advocate that every modern business requires.”

In Cincinnati, WTR says Dinsmore is well represented by IP litigation chair Karen Gaunt (Gold), trademark and copyright practice group chair April Besl (Silver) and Govinda Davis (Bronze). Together, Karen and April manage the international trademark portfolio and enforcement for a well-known technology company. Recognized each year for their work, WTR has noted their “outstanding performance” including clients calling the pair “fantastic partners.” Govinda’s practice extends a global reach for clients’ trademark needs, as she “remains committed to helping them expand their international profiles, as well as keeping them informed on enforcement and opposition matters.”

With dedicated IP professionals based coast to coast, the report says Dinsmore “boasts a dynamic and thriving trademark practice.” The Firm’s Chicago office team picks up “stellar commendations from its clientele on the basis of its skillful and sophisticated work in prosecution and strategy as well as transactions and licensing.”

According to the analysis, clients say Tamara Head (Bronze) of the Firm’s Chicago office, “is an outstanding trademark lawyer. Whether handling prosecution, oppositions or cancellations, she is experienced and efficient.”  WTR adds, “with expert skill in USPTO proceedings, Head deftly navigates trademarks from filing to registration.”

In addition to recognizing Dinsmore’s skill in trademarks, WTR recognized Dinsmore’s own Sean Price nationally as a recommended practitioner on its inaugural Transactions and Licensing List for 2024. Calling him a “key name” to know, WTR highlighted Sean’s “acumen in advising patrons in the acquisition, licensing and commercialization of their IP rights.”

The 2024 rankings solidify Dinsmore’s trademark group as one of the best in the country with a ranking on the WTR 1000 every year since 2014. Earlier this year, Best Lawyers recognized Dinsmore’s trademark team with a National Tier 2 ranking, in addition to Metropolitan Tier 1 rankings in Cincinnati and Cleveland.
